House of Hades by Rick Riordan

The House of Hades (The Heroes of Olympus, #4)The House of Hades by Rick Riordan

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Disclaimer: Do not review before reading Mark of Athena. May contain spoilers.

This book took me over a year to read. I got this book a month after it was released and started reading it as soon as I got it. But then with school I started letting it sit there forgotten because it just wasn’t captivating my interest like the other ones had. It seemed like nothing was happening. Even the character growth seemed to be boring and almost non-existent. I just wasn’t interested in who he had narrating or what was going on. Normally I start out with what the book is about but this seemed like it needed to be said first.

This book picks up right where it left off in Mark of Athena, cliff hanger and all. It follows the same seven demigods only now they are split in two main locations. The ship, and Tartarus. Percy and Annabeth have to find their way to the Doors of Death and unchain them from their location. Jason, Hazel, Leo, and the others need to find the House of Hades and do the same. Percy and Annabeth are stuck in Tartarus, this is really the more exciting of the two paths to the Doors while reading the book. The crew, have a more uneventful trip for most of the book. It’s interesting in the first couple of chapters, when Leo gets separated from the group and the ship gets damaged. But after that things slow down a bit. Once it hits the point of slowing down, you are begging for the narrator to go back to Percy or Annabeth.

So I would still say that yes I liked this book enough to finish it. But I feel like it could have made the character growth that was happening happen a little bit faster. I think the biggest problem was with the Leo chapters. They just went by so slowly. This may change depending on how much you like Leo, but I thought it could do with much less of him.

Overall recommendation: Read the book so you can get to the end. Once you suffer through that lagging middle part it definitely picks up.

The Heist by Janet Evanovich

The Heist (O'Hare and Fox, #1)The Heist by Janet Evanovich

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Warning: Book not for people younger than like 16!

I liked this book a lot more than I thought I would. I’m not a huge huge fan of Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum novels and at first I thought this would be the same as that, but it wasn’t. This books is a mash up of the best of USA network’s shows. It has a little bit of White Collar, In Plain Sight, Covert Affairs and even Burn Notice. (Sorry I watch a lot of television). My only problem with this book is the fact that it is an adult book. Don’t get me wrong, I can handle a little smut every now and again but it’s not my most favorite of things to read about. I still live in the Teen and Kids fantasy section of the bookstore most of the time.

The main premise of this book is mostly the same as the premise for White Collar with a few twists. Nick Fox is a con-man who is being perpetually chased by this one FBI agent named Kate O’Hare, kind of like the Peter and Neal relationship, but she finally catches him in the most amazing way possible (read to find out). The only problem is that this captivity doesn’t last and to Kate’s surprise, was never meant to. Nick “escapes” and continues to be hunted by the FBI but Kate isn’t on the case. However, this being her life’s work and all, Kate can’t let it go and she finds herself on an assignment she could never have dreamed was possible. The FBI decides to secretly use Nick and Kate to do all of the things the FBI can’t to catch the bad guy. So the fed. and the criminal team up to pull off what turns out to be the most elaborate con yet.

They’re after someone who’s gotten away with over half a billion dollars of embezzled money with a feeble crew and an insane plan. There’s parachuting, explosions, fake drug cartels, and Toblerones. Everything you could ever want from Covert Affairs, and Burn Notice with quirky and sexy main characters reminiscent of Neal Caffery (Matt Bomer) and Mary Shannon (Mary McCormick), mashed up with Nikola Tesla (Sanctuary) and Helen Magnus (Sanctuary).

I guarantee that you will fall in love with them faster than you fall in love with cute cat videos on the internet.

Chained

So there is a contest on Figment.com and I decided to enter it because I really loved the prizes and the prompt. So I put an entry up on the site and I just thought I’d put it on here so people knew what I was doing instead of the countless reviews that I should be doing (for which I apologize, I’ve been distracted by many other things). Anyway here is the link, please go read it, and comment or react to it giving feedback, I’ll edit it after the contest has ended like I normally do. But I can’t edit it now because it would be against the rules.

Figment: Who Done It? Contest

So Figment.com has contests every once in a while, and sometimes I enter them just for the heck of it. This one was particularly fun because you needed to write an alibi for a fictitious murder that took place of an infamous editor. The contest ran until October 8th, and now voting runs until October 15th. Now I’m not saying that you should vote for me, because that would just feel like cheating. But if you go to this: http://figment.com/books/427340-I-Swear-it-Wasn-t-Me- link, you can get to my story, then if you click on the tag you can find the rest of the entries.

I highly recommend that you read them, they are really fantastic, and if you like writing you should sign up for an account on Figment, and feel free to follow me on there! You can only vote for the contestants by having a figment account and by hearting the stories. So if you just want to have an account so you can read and comment on awesome people’s writing I highly recommend you get an account for that as well. The people on this site are really fantastic.

Nerdfighters, Kelly Clarkson, and other stuff

Alright so I have not been very active in anything, whether it be this blog, the roleplay sites that I’m on, and tumblr. Well that is because I have been watching Vlogbrothers videos like a lot of them because there are 977 and I don’t even know how many of those I’ve watched… I think it’s at least a hundred or more. So that is what I’ve been doing and is what I will continue to do until I have watched them all. (I will post links to every single thing I talk about in the bottom of this post). Now the thing called Nerdfighters is basically a huge community of their fans which can be found in multiple ways. There’s youtube, the ning, and a whole bunch of other cool things. I absolutely love them and you should go watch videos because they are fun, granted watching all of them might be a little crazy so don’t do that unless you don’t like sleep or have an insane amount of time.

Alright so that is only one thing that I’ve been doing for the majority of the week is earning Kellebrities points. They are part of Kelly Clarkson’s new rewards system that will give you cool prizes and stuff. Which is awesome because I’m a HUGE fan and cannot afford awesome stuff after already buying all of her cds (which are also in the prizes). From this, I got the most amazing google chrome skin ever! Unless of course someone has one that features any of the things that are in the picture above my homepage.

As before I mentioned that I have other things to be doing, like roleplaying and tumbling (I don’t know if that’s a real word or not but I’m making it one so it is). All of the sites that I roleplay with are on the sidebar in little picture link things (the sites call them affs.). My tumblr is crazy so I wouldn’t really recommend looking at it unless you want to be drawn into my insanity. But if you do there’s a link in the links section of this post.

I also have books that I’m reading, and books I am writing with Camp NaNoWriMo, and grad. parties because I just graduated high school, and college stuff to do, and movies that I’ve seen, and other stuff like that. So yeah I’ve been busy, also there are charities that I’ve been trying to raise money for (unsuccessfully might I add).

That’s what I’ve been doing, and this post is very uninteresting and a huge block of text but I don’t really care because if you love me you’ll read it anyway. The aforementioned links are just below this sentence in a list, and have a wonderful rest of your day and hopefully you’ll see more posts if you care.

Links:

Also, since I have shoved so many different teasers about stuff I’m writing, if you want like a chapter posted as a post, I will consider it just comment on this and tell me that you would like to read something and then I’ll make a poll and put it in a post and you can vote on which you would like to read. But for now: comments make for a happy blogger so comment!

Author Contest

Alright so Maggie Stiefvater is having this give away for the end of the year. The parameters? Talk about one of your favorite blog posts that she’s written. Those who don’t have a favorite don’t qualify. Me being the author stalker that I am, I of course have a favorite blog post.

My favorite blog post would definitely have to be the one where she’s listing all of the things that she has to try and fit into her car. Mostly because it is a fairly large list for a fairly small car… The blog post can be found here: http://maggiestiefvater.blogspot.com/2011/07/square-peg-camaro-shaped-hole.html and the books that she writes can also be found there. It’s her blogger fan blog, but she has other ones as well.

You should totally read her books because they’re awesome! (No I was not paid to say this or told to say this in any way shape or form, I actually like them).  Anywho, Have fun exploring!

Paradox: The Angels Are Here Status

Paradox: The Angels Are Here (Paradox #1)Paradox: The Angels Are Here by Patti Roberts

Okay I’m only like four pages into it, so I’m in the middle of the preface and I must say that I’m kind of not liking the preface. It seems really disjointed and the writing is awkward. But that could just be me. I loved the very beginning and I’m sure it will get so much better. But right now, it’s just a little weird. Eh not much to do but to read on I suppose. More to come when I’ve finished it.
